How much is a Prius Hybrid battery?

How much to replace a Prius hybrid battery? It depends on which Prius you’re talking about. Prius battery replacement cost varies depending on model, model variant, and generation. The best way to get an exact price is to call us with your VIN number and we’ll create a written estimate for you and send it via email or text.

However, if you’ve come here to get a general idea because you’re considering buying a used Prius, I’ll provide some answers to give you a ballpark cost to replace your Prius battery. Keep in mind that at the time of this post it’s August 2023. Prices change weekly. This isn’t a battery replacement quote. Don’t call us and say, “but your website said it was this much”. These are just numbers for people searching to find out how much a hybrid battery costs to replace.

Toyota Prius (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009) $2790

We have replaced more Gen2 Prius hybrid batteries than any other type of hybrid. Not because they’re bad; it’s just the best-selling hybrid of its time so there are a lot of them out there. Most of them already have new batteries, but those who installed rebuilt or refurbished batteries are still coming in for the second, third, and fourth replacements.

A new Toyota battery pack will last just as long as the original. It’s the best way to go and the only way we do the job here. Unfortunately, nobody has come up with an aftermarket or rebuilt battery that performs well (or even acceptably) compared to a new Toyota hybrid battery. If you’re interested what to expect from new battery, we have a short article on how long hybrid batteries last.

  • Labor – $553
  • Battery – $2029
  • Tax – $208

Toyota Prius- (2010 and some 2011) $3698

The third generation Prius battery replacement cost is a little higher than the second-generation. The total hybrid battery replacement cost is $3689, including parts, installation, and tax.

2010-2011 Prius hybrid battery replacement cost

  • Labor – $679

  • Tax – $280

Toyota Prius (non-plug-in)- (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015) $3261

The price for battery replacement on the later years of the third generation Prius is a little lower than the first year. The total price for hybrid battery replacement is $3261 including the battery, installation and tax.

2011-2015 Prius hybrid battery replacement cost

  • Labor – $553
  • Battery – $2457
  • Tax – $252

Toyota Prius C – (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019) $3262

The Prius C battery is very different than the standard Prius battery, but the replacement cost is pretty similar. The Prius C battery is about 72% the size of the standard Prius battery but it’s only a dollar cheaper for some reason. I’d guess it has to do with volume, but I have idea if that’s true.

2012-2019 Prius C hybrid battery replacement cost

  • Labor – $553
  • Battery – $2456
  • Tax – $251.82

Toyota Camry – (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011) $4552

For whatever reasons, the Toyota Camry hybrid battery packs seem to fail less frequently than the Prius. Part of this perception is likely caused by the fact that there are around 30 Priuses for every Camry hybrid, but the two packs we’ve replaced both lasted a bit longer than the average Prius pack. Both were 2007 model years. One lasted 13 years and the other 15 years.

The longer life is good news since the Camry battery pack is considerably more expensive.

2007-2011 Camry hybrid battery replacement cost

  • Labor – 647.80
  • Battery – 3541.14
  • Tax – 362.97
