How to reset the maintenance required light
This procedure for the Prius maintenance reset will apply to 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020

Like I’ve mentioned before, the maintenance required message indicates that the car is due for an oil change, but it doesn’t mean that’s all that’s due. Don’t fall into the trap of changing your motor oil 10 times in a row before realizing you’ve missed out on some important maintenance.
The maintenance required message comes on every 5,000 miles. Toyota has two maintenance schedules. “Normal” and Severe”.
Normal schedule: Rotate tires every 5,000 miles. Change oil every 10,000 miles
Severe schedule: Rotate tires and change oil every 5,000 miles.
I strongly recommend changing the oil and filter as outlined in the “severe” service schedule. Also, remember that there are additional service items that need to be done every 15,000 miles, so every 3rd 5K is a bigger service.
OK, enough preamble. Here’s how to reset the light.
Gen4 Prius Maintenance Reset
- With the car in Ready mode, select the gear (settings) icon
- Select the icon with a car and gear (vehicle settings), and then press the “enter” button on the right side steering wheel control.
- Click “Maintenance System”, and then press the “enter” button on the right side steering wheel control.
- Choose ” Oil Maintenance”, and then press the “enter” button on the right side steering wheel control.
- When it asks if you want to reset it, select yes and then press the “enter” button on the right side steering wheel control.
If you get stuck, and live in Berkeley, Emeryville, or Oakland, swing by and we can reset it for you, no charge, even if someone else did the oil change.
